Gary Kildall - CP/M, Digital Research and GEM

Gary Kildall is someone who had most influence during the microcomputer revolution but his mark can still be seen in today's machines. It is tempting to compare him with Bill Gates - they both produced computer language implementations, operating systems and large companies - but the similarity is only superficial.

Travel back in time by building your own Altair 8800

From this site you can get the (almost) same Altair 8800 microcomputer kit that "Popular Mechanics" featured in 1975 and that many consider to have started the PC revolution. Very cool project to work in, but the $1499 tag seems a little high to me (collectors may think otherwise)

A new Altair 8800 kit is available. The Altair 8800 is a microcomputer design from 1975, based on the Intel 8080A CPU. It was sold in kit form through through Popular Electronics magazine, and it became very popular. Some feel that it is the first spark that led to the personal computer revolution. Now you can build one yourself, like in 1975.
